Robin Enterprises Co. was one of the first printers in central Ohio to go direct to plate, nearly seven years ago. While shopping for our new MIS system (Management Information System), it was apparent that mutch could be gained with a completely new prepress workflow and all new equipment, so we bought everything. This new system will incorporate PDF workflow that will work well with our new MIS system, as well as, using and creating files for the JDF workflow, while increasing our technological abilities..

I need to start this by talking about JDF files or a JDF workflow. First of all, JDF stands for “Job Definition Format”. It is a file format that is being widely adopted by all major manufacturers in the printing industry. The best way that I have heard it described is like a snowball. The JDF file starts when a job is entered into the shop. As the job rolls through the shop the JDF file collects information and grows larger and larger. This information can be fed into JDF compliant equipment (like a plate setter, printing press or paper cutter) to accelerate make ready times, while drastically reducing common redundancies. This information can be recalled at a later date should the job rerun.
With the latest equipment that accepts JDF technology you can save precious time and increase your consistancy from project to project. Robin Enterprises Co. installs two new automated cutting systems. These systems are capable of utilizing the latest (JDF) technologies installed early in 07.
